Altexa Backup is an easy-to-use, powerful off-site data backup solution, for machines running Microsoft™ Windows™

Program features

  • Ease of use
Ergonomy of the application was foremost during the design phase. Screen layout and functions are grouped, and easy to understand
  • Multilingual
Program ships in both English and French language. Support for other languages is in development
  • Modular design
allows for very small memory footprint - when the program is running, it only takes up 4MB of memory

About the modules:
  • Splash loader
Provides a simple interface to the other modules, and since it is the first module you will encounter, it includes the setup wizard. It also allows you to access your web-based account management center easily.
  • Splash Loader (move your mouse over the image to see it full-size)
  • Job Management module
Allows you to setup your backup jobs (as many as you like). Each backup job can specify a different directory to back up, different files to filter out of the backup (for example: don't backup .exe files), and how many revisions of each file to keep. You can also specify a program to be run before this job starts, and one to run when the job finishes, if you need these functions

  • Backup Agent module
The module which does all the work! Can run automatically with Windows™ and will process the backup jobs you have specified at regular intervals. Each file to be backed-up is compressed to reduce space (so your space allowance is effectively doubled), and then encrypted with a password that YOU specify, and that only YOU know - your password is never sent to Altexa, and neither Altexa, nor anyone else, can have access to your files. The Backup Agent module runs in Windows™ system tray, so does not take up any space on your screen, and can safely be 'forgotten' If you open the Bakup Agent window, however, you can see different information: the file crrently being processed, a resume of the backup job, incuding how much disk space you have left on the Altexa servers, an expandable/ collapsible box listing any errors which hav occured during the backup (if the title is yellow, then a nonfatal error has occurred, if it's red, then a fatal error has occurred), and finally a list of the actions taken by the backup agent.

  • Restore module
As its name suggests, this module lets you restore your backed-up files - either by specifying which files to restore from a backup job, or by restoring a complete backup job. One interesting feature is that the Restore module lets you restore files to your computer that were backed-up on a different machine (if the other machine was backed-up using your account, and you know the files' encryption password, of course!). The Restore module will prompt you for the machine and job name to restore, unless you only have one machine backed-up, or one job on a machine, in which case it will skip these steps for you.
